HOUR 2: Russ wants to come back, Calls, Mike Florio
The PM Team w/Poni & Mueller - En podcast av Audacy - Onsdagar
Russell Wilson was on the Pat McAfee Show today and talked about his interest in returning to the Steelers. How likely is that? The guys wondered if Wilson would have interest anywhere else after how this season ended. There’s almost a sense of desperation with Russ. We also know Aaron Glenn will be the Jets coach and not Arthur Smith, which means Smith will be back. That should mean no more Russ. Is there anyone out there that thinks another year with Russ will be better for the Steelers? The best thing to happen to Justin Fields is how badly Russ fell off a cliff at the end of the season. Do fans want Russell Wilson back? Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike reacted to the words of Jim Rooney saying the Steelers fans should appreciate that they are always “above the mean” compared to almost the rest of the NFL. Mike said it is excuse making from someone in the family and it hurts more when the Steelers are supposed to be a team that always has Super Bowl on the mind. Mike talked about their scouting department and why they have missed on some key spots in the draft in the last handful of years. Mike brought up the ‘protective bubble’ that was put around Ben Roethlisberger in his last few years and how that hurt them in finding their next QB. When it comes to winning championships and the standard, Mike said “what do you put up banners for?” – not for being better than average. Mike got into the business impacts of football and how family-owned teams handle it differently.
