European and US markets closed the week higher with some stock rotation in evidence after Thursday’s US CPI data fuelled optimism of a first Fed rate cut in September. The big banks started to announce Q2 earnings, and more than 40 S&P 500 companies are due to report second-quarter earnings this week. Then came the shock attempt on Donald Trump’s life at a rally in Pennsylvania. He escaped serious injuryand as he plans the next stages of his presidential campaign, pollsters currently see a higher likelihood of him winning the race.
