In this episode, Anne Hidalgo talks about what it is to be a political woman in 2018 (03:57), her childhood in Lyon and her memories of Andalusia (04:48), her family history impacted by Francoâs nationalism (10:30), her French naturalisation at 14 years old (18:05), how she became a feminist (21:47), the link between Paris and her political career (27:25), the parity law (39:00), how to stay healthy when faced with her opponentsâ attacks (48:15), why she was opposed to separate spaces at the afrofeminist festival Nyansapo (57:10) and her relationship with her uterus (1:05:49). Anne Hidalgo is Parisâ mayor since March 2014 and the first woman to ever hold this position. Born in June 1959 near Cadix in Andalusia (Spain), she arrived in France with her family in 1961 and grew up in a working-class neighbourhood in Lyon. In 1984, after her studies in labour and trade-union law, she becomes health and safety inspector in the French department Val-de-Marne. She is then 23 years old and the youngest person in France to hold this position. She becomes a member of the French socialist party in 1994. She starts up in politics in 1997, working for Martine Aubry who is then minister of Employment and Solidarity and becomes her advisor. In 2001, she runs for the municipal elections in the 15th arrondissement in Paris. She wins a seat at the Paris city council. She becomes the previous mayor of Paris Bertrand DelanoĂ«âs deputy mayor. In September 2012, she announces her decision to run for the next municipal election in 2014, which she wins against the right-wing candidate Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet. In October 2018, she gets the authorisation from the Parisâ Tribunal to pedestrionise a whole section of the Seineâs banks. This measure symbolises her term, centered on environmentalism and the fight against cars.
